US President, Barack Obama’s nominee as Ambassador to Belize, Vinai Thummalapally, says he is proud to be nominated as the first Indian American to serve as United States' envoy to Belize. Zelaya: Hondurans have right to strike, protest
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras - Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya said Tuesday that the Honduran people "have the right to insurrection" against the interim government that forced him out of the country.
The remarks appeared to pave the way for a further escalation of the conflict in Honduras, where Zelaya's supporters have staged massive marches demanding his return and one person has already been killed in clashes between demonstrators and soldiers.

Maya Island Air Inaugurates Regional Flights
On Tuesday Maya Island Air became Belize’s first regional airline when it inaugurated its direct flights to Cancun and Guatemala City. It is a giant leap for what was a small local airline. Domestic workers added to free movement categories
As Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders reaffirmed their commitment to free movement, they added another category of CARICOM nationals - household domestics - allowed to travel throughout the region hassle free, but Antigua and Barbuda and Belize have been given a reprieve in expanding the categories.
Regional heads have also agreed to work on a timetable for the implementation of full free movement.
CARICOM's new Chairman and host President Bharrat Jagdeo said these were among the decisions reached during the 30th Heads of Government Conference in Georgetown which ended over the weekend.

Sustainable finance growth opportunity for region, says Barbados minister

Jamaica's IFC will not operate as a tax haven, says minister
KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) -- Minister of Finance, Audley Shaw, has assured Parliament that Jamaica will not earn the reputation of a tax haven, when the proposed International Financial Centre (IFC) is established in downtown Kingston.
Addressing the House of Representatives this week, Shaw argued that a tax haven is a jurisdiction that does not have competitive tax base, and refuses to provide information to foreign tax authorities.
